All About the Artist

You found me! I always feel that when folks connect in this world, through friends, social networks, or simply by chance, that it was meant to be. I hope that is true, that you are glad you landed here to learn a little more about me, the artist.

My journey is an incredible one, filled with physical challenges, humbling life lessons, but most of all, outrageous JOY! Many moons ago, and many surgeries ago, I was an elementary school teacher. I love that profession to this day, and miss it deeply. My art grew as a direct result of having to leave what I knew, what I loved, and I am grateful to have the gift of creativity to fall back on. As you see my art, know this, I am self taught. I don’t hold a prestigious art degree, although I do have a Master’s in Education. I simply chose to turn to art, to learn everything I could, when my body prevented me from staying in the career that I loved. Gratefully, that artistic ability opened doors I would never have imagined walking through and my life is richer for it.

Though disabled now, meaning I can’t go back to the classroom again, I do embrace being part of the  VSA Artist program, which is an international program for artists with disabilities. It helped me connect with an art network locally, and one on a broader scale. You see, though my mind works just fine, I have endured 24 surgeries. My joints simply age faster than they should, so I have many screws, cages, and pieces holding me together. Yes, that is challenging. But I know, like I am breathing, that rising to a challenge is what life is about, so be thrilled for me. Be thrilled in knowing that despite all of that, I make the most out of every day, am happy as a pig in swallow most days, and am thrilled to be able to share my gifts of art and writing with you.
