Three paintings. One personal creative language. A whole lot of interesting discoveries.

What makes a painting unmistakably yours?

Not simply your signature. Not the subject you choose. Not even the techniques you've mastered.

It's the decisions you make because something interests you.

The colors you can't leave alone. The shapes you keep repeating. The peculiar subjects that make you curious. The stories, experiences, memories, and desires that find their way into your work, sometimes without your realizing it.

And perhaps a few things you've been hesitant to paint because they seem too strange, too personal, too ordinary, or too different from what you think people want.

I want us to investigate those things.

Over eight weeks, we'll use my Journal of Interesting process to examine what fascinates us, question why it matters, and discover how those interests can become intentional choices in our paintings.

You'll build your own creative journal using guided questions, printable resources, collected imagery, writing, sketches, experiments, and personal discoveries.

We'll explore acrylic and mixed-media approaches, but the real emphasis is on choice.

Your subject. Your tools. Your colors. Your marks. Your message.

Through the process, you'll create three paintings that belong together, not because they look identical, but because they share something meaningful about your emerging or evolving visual language.

We'll challenge habits, investigate personal influences, experiment with unexpected combinations, and learn to recognize when a painting begins to feel genuinely ours.

And we'll tackle a question that deserves more attention in an artist's life:

What happens when we become the first audience for our own art?

Before we consider what the market wants, we'll explore what we want to say. Then we'll talk about finding and connecting with audiences who appreciate the work we're choosing to make.

Because sharing and selling our art can be deeply rewarding. But neither should require us to abandon the things that make our work interesting in the first place.

You don't have to paint quirky characters or polka-dotted trees to belong here.

Your beautifully different might be quiet, bold, strange, tender, chaotic, restrained, whimsical, or entirely unexpected.

The point isn't to paint like anyone else.

It's to understand what interests you, develop the confidence to pursue it, and make three paintings that tell us something about your version of the world.

What happens when you don't get to make every creative decision?

Welcome to Art Dice Club, a wildly unpredictable mixed-media painting night where the roll of the dice determines what happens next.

We'll roll for elements such as color, line, shape, texture, pattern and other creative prompts and then figure out how to make them work together on the canvas.

Sometimes the dice will give you exactly what you hoped for.

Sometimes they absolutely will not.

That's where the fun begins.

I'll guide you through strategies for responding to unexpected combinations, making stronger creative decisions and working through those wonderfully awkward what-on-earth-do-I-do-with-this? moments.

This isn't about making the same painting as everyone else. It's about loosening your grip on the outcome, trusting your instincts and discovering what you're capable of when your usual choices aren't available.

Expect paint. Expect laughter. Expect a few questionable rolls.

And expect to leave with a mixed-media painting you probably never would have made on your own.

Your selfie is about to have a very interesting evening.

Grab your girlfriends, best friend, boyfriends, or any friend and bring your willingness to surrender control.

We begin with your selfie and a few creative strategies from me for working with faces, expressive marks, color, pattern, layering and mixed media.

Then the clock starts.

Every seven minutes…PASS.

Your painting moves to the next person.

They add something.

Seven minutes later?

PASS.

Around the table it goes, collecting marks, colors, ideas and wonderfully unexpected decisions from everyone it meets.

Eventually your portrait makes its way back to you…and that's when you get to finish strong, pulling all those surprising contributions together into a mixed-media portrait that could never have happened without the group.

You don't need portrait experience. You don't need to know what you're doing before you arrive.

In fact, not knowing what's going to happen is rather the point.

It's part painting night, part creative experiment and part girls' night out—with plenty of laughter built into the process.
